On Day 5 of our Quarantine Vacation, we received a phone call from the Government Division set to check up on all cross-border visitors. I had a huge freak out because they called at 9:35am and my phone did not ring š¤¦āāļø. I listened to the voice message and they said they would try calling again within 24 hours. I tried calling back the 1-855 number but it was an out-going line only. I waited (impatiently) and they called me back less than an hour later. When I picked up the line, the lady asked if it was a good time to talk, she had some questions I needed to answer. I was tempted to sarcastically tell her how busy I was but I didn't. She asked me to confirm the date that we crossed the border, the address of our quarantine location, how many travelers I had with me, who is getting our essentials like food and medication and she advised that Kevin may receive a call as well.
You know that feeling of nervousness when there is a cop following you? Even though you are wearing your seat-belt, not speeding, and your tags are up-to-date; you worry that you may have broken a law somehow. That's what Travel Quarantine feels like! We are staying in our separate quarters, seeing Tim and Odie outside at a distance (from our patio area to their patio area) and it still feels like we could get in trouble. It's not the family visit we had hoped for especially with zero contact (not even a hug) with Odie or Tim. It definitely doesn't feel like a break since our responsibilities are waiting for us back home including Zeus who is going to be PISSED that we left him for this amount of time. I wish we could go back sooner, before the 14-day restriction. I still don't fully understand why it is mandatory for two weeks, is it for contact tracing? Is it a matter of confirming whether we are sick? Maybe it's for the chance to police the visitors? It's all starting to get to me... working through Facetime, using up every bit of data that we have and worrying about the business is not a form of relaxation, although the setting is peaceful.
I tried to get my mind off things today by sun-bathing (see picture below of my chair set-up). Instead of sun-tan lotion I opted for inspect spray, same oily feel with a citronella scent, because the black flies and mosquito's are ever present here at Casa Gillam. I lasted roughly 40 mins before a bee decided to pay me a visit. It kept crawling on my stomach and thighs, as I imagined my worst nightmare coming true; being stung for the first time, finding out I am allergic and having to go to a Canadian hospital with no health benefits during a pandemic. I am the Queen of Worst-Case Scenario's and snowballing the situation is an Art that I have mastered. I wonder what tomorrow has in store for me... maybe I'll wash my car while wearing bug-netting or change the color of my shoelaces or count how many spindles are on Odie & Tim's deck. I'll keep you posted on the excitement, I might even switch to daily blog posts since I have so many adventures to share.
