Early Bird Gets The Worm

Proud Parent Moment: I asked Josh what my next blog post should be about. I was half joking, just curious what he would say or if he would give me the classic, "I don't know". His answer was the title of this post. This coming from the kid who didn't know any famous sayings. Slowly, but surely, we have introduced him to many idioms and now, he is able to put them into regular conversation 🥰.

Josh suggested that I write about being young and taking chances. With admiration, he mentioned how we sold everything, left our home town and bought a business in another country. And he reminded me about that time we adopted a teenager. He may or may not have mentioned how great of son he is... smart, handsome, funny (I didn't argue).

Not everyone takes risks, especially not when there are so many variables. Kevin and I are similar with our tolerance for the unknown. There seems to be a fine line between risky and stupid. I think the distinction lies in hard work and ambition. Taking a chance with a new job, new relationship or new zip/postal code is more likely to be a success if you work at it; give it everything you've got. This advice is old news, there are thousands of bumper stickers with the same idea, using less words and catchy phrases. What people don't talk about is what to do when it fails? What if things don't go well, the plan goes south (not for the sunshine)? From every mistake comes experience. I didn't get to be this wise without a few experiences.

When the literary agent asked me to figure out what I want to market about myself, I fell silent (shocker, I know). I haven't done my homework yet but I plan to read the book he had recommended. Depending on what I can take away from the literature, I am thinking I may proceed with publishing the website, which just means buying a domain and trying to bring in more traffic. My hope is to continue sharing my thoughts through the blog, maybe add a moral to my stories, and possibly start an advice column. A free-form, no names needed, open-sharing, question and answer type of thing. It would all be free and for all I know, no one is going to ask for my advice 😂. It's just an idea. Another risk I am willing to take. I'm not getting any younger and you know what they say, 'the early bird gets the worm' 😉.

P.S. - Photo Credit goes to my Mother-in-Law and her mad camera skills 🖤

(the picture of us, not the cartoon with the bird struggling to get the worm😋)
