Grey Area

Almost every Forensic Files episode has the same plot... someone dies because of or for money. With divorce, a common denominator is finances, sometimes infidelity and maybe sometimes, both šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø. My point is, the almighty dollar is ruler of the land. We give money power and worse, we give power to those with money. For every statement made about healthcare during this pandemic, something is often said about the bottom-line. Instead of focusing on the health and safety of all human beings, there is an element of cost. Maybe it's the universal healthcare in me speaking, but I feel like no one is outright admitting that the U.S. is choosing money over its citizens. Keep working, they say... keep the economy open... keep the machine moving, even though it is running on fumes. Every decision is being viewed as a corporate transaction, where is our sense of community?

Some may say I am the epitome of 'the pot calling the kettle black' because I am running a business in the midst of this crisis. There is no leisure in going to work; we are doing what we can to safeguard our small business, our livelihood, the employment of others, and for Kevin and I, our immigration status depends on our investment. My issue lately is in the tourism. So many Americans, whether they are being careful or not, are choosing to risk their health by flocking to campgrounds, beaches, even tourist attractions! No one is stopping them because we need the money! There has to be some middle ground, a grey area that doesn't kill people or bank accounts. I hate that the two are so closely knit, it feels like good vs. evil and evil is taking the lead. I am guilty of wanting things back to the 'old normal' and I am pressing on, each day, by staying focused on what I need to accomplish but none of those things is more valuable than the health and well-being of my fellow neighbor. I can only hope that more people are feeling this struggle and have a desire to see ā€˜good’ prevail. Lastly, I pray that our leaders find a way to navigate through this dark time. We all know history is being written but the 2020 chapter is far from over.
