North vs. South

There's the weather; it's much nicer in the South than the North (no snow). The food is an adjustment, various chain restaurants and grocery stores carry new items, not always better but different. No shortage on Christian Churches in the South and they all seem to have a uniqueness, just enough to make you consider trying all of them. My struggle is socializing. I used to fit in with the attitude, humor and overall community from back home. Here, in South Carolina, everyone is very kind and polite but it usually ends there. I made myself a deal, I would go to everything I am invited to. If someone found it in their heart to extend a welcome to a birthday, anniversary, hip hop dance class, séance, or dog's gender reveal party than I will respond YES! Recently I went to a bowling birthday party for a 6 year old. The child is the son of my sister-in-law's best friends husbands ex-co-worker. At this party, that I attended alone, I happened to meet a pleasant woman who was from the northern states. The conversation was easy and I definitely overshared like a nervous first date. I added her to Facebook and insulted her profile photo (not smart). I was really close to asking for her cell # but decided to slow my roll. I waited until the evening to message her privately to say how much fun it was to meet her and that we should hang out. I may or may not have mentioned the polygamist show I was watching on Netflix and suggested that she be a sister wife in my marriage. It was a joke that I thought was HILARIOUS but in hindsight, it's been two days since the birthday party and I have not heard from her. Its very possible that being from the North is NOT the reason for my lack of friends, it's more likely that I need to think before I speak, or text, or go outside.
