Deliberate is good, right?

Updated: Mar 12, 2020

I was asked by a self-employed friend to do an assessment of my motivation, behavior and overall sales skills. I sold insurance for many years and I loved it. This friend of mine is an Insurance Agent looking for new tools to find perspective Sales Associates. One of the things that stood out to me was the word ‘Deliberate’. Apparently I am a deliberate person based on the results of the test. It sounded like a negative thing at first but its been a few days since I’ve completed the evaluation and I agree. I specifically choose my words, my phrases and even my timing when I speak to people about certain topics. For instance, when our son told me he got his first tattoo, I was very careful with my words. He knew I wouldn’t exactly approve and I would frown upon him using his precious dollars on something like that. I asked a few questions, things I actually wanted to know, like ‘did it hurt?’, ‘what’s the design?’, and ‘where did you get it?’. I let him have his happy moment that evening. He was content with his decision and I wasn’t there to bring him down. By the next morning I was ready to rumble. I woke up at 5am on a Saturday to start my text message to him. To give him my honest opinion and my lecture. I am nothing, if not predictable, so our son was ready for me. So ready that he was also awake early that morning to stand up for himself and tell me that it is his body, his decision and his mistake to make. My long winded point here was to say that I really am deliberate and it comes from a place of caring, I swear.
