Slang

Do you remember using words like 'whatever' or phrases like 'going postal'? I wonder what happens from generation to generation to have the slang change so much. Nothing makes me feel old like having to ask a younger person, 'what does that mean?' Not sure if other thirty-something's remember 'talk to the hand' or 'yo' but I still say 'yo', which explains a lot.
Bromance is still hip, right? (saying hip is probably not hip, is it?) I still say douchebag (almost exclusively for drivers who don’t signal 🤬). I know some people HATE that word (sorry, Joan). Hashtag goes right over my head, I don't get why or how hashtag took off. Seeing the symbol (#) and using it in it's written form serves a purpose but saying the word 'hashtag' in conversation or WORSE - making the double two finger-crossing gesture is just silly. It's like saying 'LOL' instead of actual laughter.
I still like 'chillin' but I never really used 'fly' except for when I'm singing the Offspring song, 'Pretty Fly'. Songs really help remind us of the 'it' terminology, like Will Smith's 'Getting Jiggy With It' or TLC's 'No Scrubs'. I never used 'Rents' in place of parents or 'phat' instead of cool. I have yet to say 'feels' because it sounds wrong at my age, don't even ask me how to use it or where it came from. Sick was very popular when I graduated from high school, not illness sick but awesome sick. How I Met Your Mother is my #1 resource on slang because I think the language is hilarious. They use words like bogart, lawyered, revertigo, legendary and sumbitches. If I can keep up with popular television than maybe I can disguise my age a little.
Cool is a state of mind and I'm too legit to quit 😎
